Three police officers perish in freak accident

FRANCISTOWN: A gruesome road accident claimed the lives of four people - three of them police officers - near Nata last Friday.

Superintendent Israel Tuelo of  Nata Police Station says the accident happened at around 4pm and involved a Golden Bridge bus and a squad car.

The deceased are a female member of the public, a policewoman and two policemen. While details regarding the cause of the accident have not yet emerged, unconfirmed reports say the squad car was chasing the bus for over-speeding and was attempting to overtake the bus and force it to pull over.Superintendent Tuelo has confirmed that the driver of the bus is in police custody to help with investigations. The conductor sustained serious injuries when he allegedly jumped out a window.
