The trauma of Molepolole murder/suicide

Images of the scene in which a policeman shot another dead and then committed suicide in Molepolole two weeks ago still lingers in the minds of people who witnessed the ghastly crime.

According to the father of one of the children whose school bus driver stopped with them at the scene, his four-year-old daughter ducked under the seat of his car when he drove past Molepolole Police Station after the incident where the police officer turned the gun on himself after shooting his colleague dead."A policeman is lying around here dead and another one is on the other side," the girl told her father when he asked why she was 'hiding.'

"The other side" is the Police District Headquarters where Inspector Tapologo Nakedi was shot and killed by his colleague who later turned the murder weapon on himself.  The girl's father says his daughter also recoils when the TV is turned on at home because her source of trauma was screened by Btv on the evening news of the same day two weeks ago.  Officer Commanding Number Two District, Senior Superintendent Boikhutso Dintwa, took the opportunity at the funeral in Mmutlane last Saturday of Sub-Inspector Galopata Kawina to apologise on behalf of Btv's screening the objectionable pictures of the bloody scene.
