FRANCISTOWN: Wikipedia describes a serial killer as a person who has killed three or more people over a period of more than a month, with down time (a "cooling off period") between the murders, and whose motivation for killing is usually based on psychological gratification. Some sources, such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) disregard the "three or more" criteria and defines it as "a series of two or more murders, usually committed as separate events, usually, but not always, by one offender acting alone".
Often, a sexual element is involved in the killings, but the FBI states that motives for serial murder include "anger, thrill, financial gain, and attention seeking". The murders may have been attempted or completed in a similar fashion and the victims may have had something in common for example, occupation, race, appearance, sex, or age group. In the wake of the recent robberies, rapes, murder of four people and arson cases in Sebina and nearby villages, this publication sought explanations from psychologists on what could be going on in the minds of people who later become serial killers. Serial killers are people who do not have an element of empathy for their victims. In some cases they have suffered personality development problems at one point in their lives as a result of poor parental upbringing.
