The disabled want improved representation

Members of the Kgatleng Disabled Persons Association (KDAP) told the Kgatleng District full council meeting last week that to be disabled does not mean they are unable to contribute to the country's development.

They said they want to fully take part in the development of this country without being discriminated against.

KDAP chairperson Lele Sebele told councillors that "disability is no inability." Sebele, who is disabled, said KDAP hopes that much would be done to improve the status of its members, who are inadequately represented both in district councils and Parliament. On other issues, Sebele called on government to urgently re-visit the National Disability Day, saying it can no longer be treated as a one-day affair.
