BOBONONG: Residents of Bobonong have raised concern about the decision of the land board to suspend allocation of land. At a Kgotla meeting held in the village on Monday, Maipelo Magwibelo, a resident, queried Bobonong Sub Land Board's claim that there is shortage of land in Bobonong.

He said that it was confusing to be told that the land board allows residents to apply for two plots and, on the other hand, that there is shortage of land.Magwibelo revealed that he has information that land is available but the problem is the absence of land surveyors. He said that residents should not be punished for the failure of the land board to engage the required manpower.

He also warned that the suspension of allocation of land would eventually lead to people becoming squatters. Some residents suggested that land overseers should be appointed by the Minister of Lands and Housing, just as is the case with board members. Some land overseers, said to be corrupt, were accused of causing conflicts between residents. Bobonong Sub Land Board chairperson, Poloko Kganya explained that the land board decided to suspend land allocation due to shortage of land. He said the decision does not mean that there is no land but that people must be careful about how they utilise it.
