Suspect wants to be tested for HIV

FRANCISTOWN: A magistrate has ordered prison authorities to take an accused person for medical attention after he demanded to be tested alleging that he was tortured in a room where a friend living with HIV/AIDS underwent a bloody assault by warders.

In addition, Onneile Ntwayapelo advised the accused, Kgosietsile Pilato, 28, to open a case of assault against the warders.Pilato, who walks with difficulties, told the court that his right ear does not hear properly because of the torture meted on him by prison officials.The robbery suspect is on remand at the Francistown Prison.

Yesterday, he asked to be taken for tests after alleging that he came into contact with the blood of a friend living with HIV after being tortured. He said that two weeks ago, he was stripped naked and assaulted by prison warders who bundled him into solitary confinement in a cold dark room.Prior to his confinement in the room, he said it was used by prison officials to torture one of his friends who is living with HIV.
