Storm sweeps away P38m

CHADIBE: The P38 million storm water drainage system project that was meant to better the lives of the residents of Chadibe has turned into a disaster. The drainage system has failed to control the water flowing from the nearby hill. Instead it has burst and it directs the water into private dwellings.

Most homes in the village are submerged in water after the heavy downpour last week.

Speaking to The Monitor, one of the residents, Dikeledi Ngwepe, who stays a stone's throw away from the foot of the hill says she has never experienced floods in her yard since staying there in 1993. She says that since the drainage system was built, her yard started to flood in 2009.
