Stanchart adopts solomon dihutso primary

Solomon Dihutso Primary School in Mogoditshane on Friday benefited from a good gesture by Standard Chartered Bank Botswana in the form of a donation of a modern vegetable garden.

The donation was made as part of the bank's sustainability programme under an initiative called Adopt-a-School.The garden, fully equipped with an irrigation system, was completed with the help of the bank's Wholesale Banking staff.

Prior to the donation, the staff volunteered their time to run a series of basic financial literacy classes for students at the school over a week.   At the end of the basic financial literacy programme, the bank staff ran a competition for each standard and winners were awarded prizes. Speaking at the donation ceremony, Standard Chartered Botswana CEO Moses Lekaukau said it was essential for students to be taught the importance of saving and managing their money properly at a young age. He lauded his staff for the project.  Lekaukau said through the garden, the school will be able to grow vegetables and provide additional skills in the cultivation of fresh vegetables, skills that learners can take home to encourage their communities to grow and benefit from their own fresh produce. He said the project exposes the youngsters to small-scale agriculture, which is a very important sector of the economy.
