The Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources recently embarked on far-reaching staff movements that gave Permanent Secretary (PS) Dr Akolang Tombale added responsibilities. The PS has been appointed Mmamabula's project coordinator, chief negotiator and chairman. Tombale's appointment effective last month is widely seen as government's acknowledgement of the importance of the project.

"We are just starting.  It's a big project, as such we needed to understand its impact on the economy in general.  We realised this was best way to do it," the PS said.
The ministry is handling other major projects that include the expansion of the Morupule colliery and power station and North-South Water Carrier.

Other appointments in the ministry has elevated Kago Moshashane and Terence Siamisang as the ministry's acting permanent secretary and acting deputy permanent secretary respectively.  Boikobo Paya from the Department of Water Affairs has been appointed project engineer for the Mmamabula project.
