S/Phikwe residents want SPEDU mandate reviewed

SELEBI-PHIKWE: Former miners and community members here have called for the review of SPEDU mandate, as they believe it is not serving its purpose now that the Mine has closed.

At a Kgotla meeting addressed by MP for Selebi-Phikwe West Dithapelo Keorapetse this week, the residents said the current mandate and strategy for SPEDU is no longer relevant to the current town’s economic situation as it was formulated at a time when the BCL Mine was operational so as to diversify from reliance on the copper mining.  They said it is imperative to align the mandate with the current economic needs of the town.

Keorapetse concurred that it was a necessary request to re-evaluate what SPEDU seeks to address.
