Son threatens to kill mother over Omang

FRANCISTOWN: A 30-year-old man of Shashe Bridge appeared in court last week over allegations that he threatened to kill his mother for refusing to help him apply for Omang (National Identity card).

The state alleges that Gaone Baliki threatened to kill Catherine Baliki on January 31 at Chadibe village, a few kilometres west of Francistown. Gaone is also facing a charge of damaging property worth over P5,000. The state prosecutor Jalone Somolokae applied for the accused to remain in custody. He called on the investigating officer to tell the court why the accused should not be given bail.He said the accused travelled from Shashe Bridge where he stays to Chadibe when the incident allegedly happened.The investigating officer further said Gaone also fought with his mother over the same issue.Said the investigating officer: "He told his mother that he is going to kill her and then commit suicide.

He also attempted to commit suicide inside the police cells. "If granted bail he may commit suicide. We tried to reconcile him with his mother who has since been taken to the social workers for counselling after the two incidents. "We are yet to interview his mother over the incidents and our investigations are continuing. We pray that the accused be further remanded."Gaone told Senior Magistrate Thebeetsile Mulalu that he has nothing to say concerning the application made by the state for his further remand.
