Sickly rape accused pleads for medication

FRANCISTOWN: Kemodirile Garebatho of Maun, facing a single charge of rape pleaded with court yesterday to be assisted to acquire drugs because he was getting weaker by the day.

He told Justice Gaolapelwe Ketlogetswe Ketlogetswe during the status hearing of his case at Francistown High Court that he is supposed to start retroviral treatment in Maun. "I am pleading with court to help me acquire my medical drugs at Maun. I once done HIV tests and I was supposed to have started taking my medications a long time back," said Garebatho. He said that ever since his arrest, he has never had a chance to take his medication.

"I am sick, Le lona le a bona fela jaaka ke fedile, ke kopa go thusiwa gore ke kgone go bona melemo (Your can see for yourselves how emaciated I have become. I need assistance to obtain my medication). I have been asking for help so many times and I wish this time I could be assisted because I am getting weaker," said Garebatho. Justice Ketlogetswe took the prison officer who is responsible for assisting the accused to task for the delay in getting medication. "What is the delay all about? Please tell the prison authorities to follow this issue for him (the accused) to start taking his medications.
