A report on a visit to a Youth Empowerment Scheme (YES) bootcamp in Pandamatenga has confirmed allegations of sexual misconduct between trainees and Botswana Defence Force (BDF) personnel.

Up to 13 injuries, some of them serious, as well as truancy and vulgar language on the part of trainees are reported. The report, which was complied on March 25 and 26, 2013, follows a probe conducted by the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture chaired by the MP for Shoshong Philip Makgalemele.Other members of the committee were MPs Fidelis Molao, Bagalatia Arone, Botsalo Ntuane and secretary Bonnet Keineetse.

The report, which was tabled by Makgalemele in Parliament yesterday, says BDF personnel confirmed the allegations of sexual activities between the trainees and three BDF trainers. The incidents took place after graduation of an earlier bootcamp that took place in December 2012. Reads the report in part: "They further explained that this was spotted by other authorities within BDF and they took the matter to higher authorities in Gaborone and relevant disciplinary measures were taken against the perpetrators."
