Seleka saga: Tumasera residents threaten violence

TUMASERA/SELEKA: Residents of Tumasera in Tswapong have given government 21 days to reverse the decision to declare Seleka a village or face the consequences.

Leading the delegation which petitioned the Office of the President (OP) early last week, Basiami Kologano told a Kgotla meeting in Tumasera on Saturday that they informed government officials that the situation in their village is so bad that it might result in bloodshed if not attended to.

Last week the Mahalapye-based District Commissioner told Seleka residents that pursuant to the High Court judgment of 1995, government recognises the place as an independent village. Seleka will now enjoy government social amenities and infrastructure befitting a village. In their petition Tumasera residents say they did not know that Seleka had been gazetted as a village while Tumasera remains ungazetted, yet they share services like tribal administration.Tumasera residents also demand that government institute serious action against the Deputy DC in Mahalapye, Monyakeng. They say that the OP should arrange with the Attorney General's office to address the concerned villagers. They argue that there is no way government can implement the High Court judgment without marking the village boundaries. They further demand that the Sefhare Sub-landboard suspends the allocation of plots pending the resolution of the matter.
