Segakwana farmers demand explanations

Farmers at Segakwana cattle post near Dikwididi in Kgatleng District grilled land board officials yesterday over the alleged allocation of a game lodge in an area gazetted for livestock grazing.

In their meeting with Mmathubudukwane sub-land board officials, over 50 farmers expressed concern that the communal grazing land was now being turned into a tourism business without proper consultation, a charge land board member Brian Molefhi denied.

The board claimed ignorance of any approval of such an application. However, farmers insisted that the owners of the alleged game lodge project had started clearing the area for construction. One farmer Shadrack Nkele noted that some years back after learning of the apparent application by a certain trust through the Dikwididi village development committee (VDC), he and a few other farmers tried to block the application. He added that since then dealings on the application have been kept a secret by officials.
