Security tight as robbery accused appears in court

FRANCISTOWN: Heavily armed police stood guard outside the magistrate court on Wednesday when a notorious robbery suspect appeared for mention.

The accused, Caiphus Atlholang, 31, and others who were not before court are alleged to have violently robbed Maureen Lupe of her Nokia cellphone worth P485 and  P3,700 which was the property of Keobort Plant Hire at Ntshe River on September 22, 2005.

The prosecutor Semakaleng Mazibane told Magistrate Sijabuliso Siziba that the trial date set for May 22 was not conducive for the state to proceed with the matter. When questioned about his previous absenteeism, Atlholang explained that he didn't appear in court because police did not collect him in Gaborone where he is currently jailed for another matter.
