SADC, EU, Germany Launch IICB Programme

The secretariat of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the European Union Delegation to Botswana and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany launched SADC Integrated Institutional Capacity Building (IICB) Programme in Gaborone on Friday.

The IICB Programme is co-funded by the European Union and Government of the Federal Republic of Germany to the tune of €18.7 million.  The programme is aimed at enhancing the capacity of national structures of SADC member states and the secretariat to facilitate and co-ordinate implementation of regional programmes as identified in the SADC Revised Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP). 

Giving his remarks, German ambassador to Botswana Ralf Andreas Breth said supporting regional integration efforts across the African continent was one of the conerstones of Germany’s Africa initiatives. He added that they were committed to supporting political and economic cooperation across national borders.
