Provision of electricity to the Southern African Development Community(SADC) rural communities has the potential to stimulate sustainable growth.

University of Botswana (UB) Head of Department of Mechanical Engineering, Dr Clever Ketlogetswe announced on Monday this week in Gaborone that scores of communities across Africa are still dependent on traditional fuels such as firewood and biomass for their daily basic needs.

Speaking at a three-week Energy technology Assessment course, Ketlogetswe conceded that most African regions that heavily depend on traditional fuels are eastern Africa and Indian Ocean islands, accounting 83 percent, and western and central Africa with 74 percent.
