Residents left out in the cold

SELEBI-PHIKWE: Residents of Ralenyeletse fields, commonly known as masimo-aga -Ralenyeletse, on the outskirts of Botshabelo North location have accused the Selebi-Phikwe Town Council (SPTC) of neglecting them.

One of the residents, Gaipone Morapedi, lashed out at the council for ignoring the area. He told Mmegi during a visit to the area yesterday that they are not enjoying any fruits of independence, including potable water.

"We have stayed here long before Botshabelo location was set up but that area now has nearly everything, including water and electricity. The location is only a stone's throw from us but the council is failing to bring water and electricity to us. We also want to be given an opportunity to apply for Self Help Housing Agency (SHHA) plots like Botshabelo residents," he said. Morapedi complained that politicians only remember them when it is time for elections. He mentioned that voting for politicians has not benefited them because the area is still underdeveloped.
