Registrar advises union to interdict general secretary

SELEBI-PHIKWE: The registration of Bob Malele, as secretary general of the Botswana Mine Workers Union (BMWU) has been put on hold following alleged misuse of funds.

The Registrar of Trade Unions, Lesego Pule has advised BMWU to invoke the provisions of Section 44 of the Trade Unions and Employers Organisation Act to apply for an interdiction against Malele until the completion of investigations instituted against the trade union. Pule said that the application should be made within the next 14 days.
 
The BMWU officisals who have been registered are: Jack Tlhagale (president), Joseph Tsimako (deputy president), Sebataladi Ramoitoi (deputy general secretary) and Mpolokang Marewa (treasurer). Committee members are Kefilwe Mathodi, David Lesejane, Happy Bashe, Moses Joubert and Amogelang Modiredi. Trustees are Maenge Maenge, Samuel Dire and Tobo Segonyane.

Meanwhile, Malele, Tsimako and Mocherenwa have challenged the ascendance of Tlhagale to the presidency of the union at the High Court. They have applied for his interdiction from holding office.
