Rasetimela residents cry over water shortage

SELEBI-PHIKWE: Residents of Rasetimela Ward in Bobonong have appealed to the Bobirwa Sub-District Commissioner to address serious water shortages in the area.

In a petition to the Sub-District Commissioners, the residents said water problems have bedeviled the village since 2011. They said that at a meeting in 2011, the Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) said the project to equip Mapoo boreholes to supply the ward with water has been financed. The residents were assured that the project would be completed in July that year but they are still waiting.

The petition says that at another meeting held in May last year with all district authorities, the issue of equipping Mapoo boreholes was never mentioned. Instead, it was said that the Airstrip borehole would be connected through a pipeline to a tank that would address water shortages in Rasetimela but so far nothing has happened. "In February this year, we sought audience with the area councillor, the administrator at the MP's office, the headman and WUC's water works engineer, Lucas Makepe, who informed us that funds have been secured to construct a transmission pipeline from Mmadikgomo boreholes to supply Rasetimela with water. He promised that this will be done by June this year. We wonder how the health conditions will be like by then," reads the petition.
