Rape victims get little help

FRANCISTOWN: The number of rape victims in Botswana is growing everyday and it has become apparent that in almost all of the cases their emotional trauma is not completely dealt with.

Rape victims cry foul after reporting their cases as they feel that not enough counselling is offered to them after the traumatic experience of a sexual assault.

In most cases the blame is directed at the victim.
Commenting on the failure of society to support rape victims, Peggy Ramaphanyane, who is the coordinator of the Maun-based Women Against Rape (WAR), told Mmegi that people mostly question what the victim was wearing, where they were and their behaviour during the time of the assault.
