Member of Parliament (MP) for Kanye South, Kentse Rammidi has suggested a new roadmap of Rs to replace the five Ds of President Ian Khama to revitalise the economy.

In his response to the Midterm Review of the 10th National Development Plan (NDP 10) in Parliament recently, Rammidi said the five Ds roadmap has failed and Botswana should consider a master plan consisting of Re-examine, Reconstruct, Restructure, Re-engineer and Re-plan for the Recovery of the country's economy. He said Batswana have the option of using another R - Remove - to kick the ruling Botswana Democratic Party from power.
"If Batswana do not use R for Remove, then the last option is a sad one, that is R for Regret," he said. The legislator said he regretted that while the government encourages the private sector to contribute towards the growth of the economy, the government does not give the private sector room to operate. He said that he knows of businesspeople who have proven that they have money, and who have offered to partner with government on various projects but were snubbed.

The legislator added that there was very little the government can do to create jobs for young people as long as the standard of education in the country is not improved. He said the status quo is that many Form 3 and Form 5 students are unable to proceed to institutions of higher learning.
