An investigating officer in the case in which former government journalist Norman Patlakwe is accused of rape, said at the Village Magistrates' Court yesterday that he did not do a thorough job.

Lebogang Sebogisi said he decided to charge Patlakwe with rape immediately after getting the testimony of the alleged victim. Patlakwe is said to have offered a young girl a lift from Mmakgodi to Gaborone and then went with her to a lodge in Mogoditshane where the rape occurred.

Sebogisi said during his investigations he took Patlakwe and the young girl to the lodge where the alleged rape occurred. He said Patlakwe never denied booking at the lodge. The receptionist at the lodge confirmed that he saw Patlakwe at the lodge during the day of the alleged incident with a female companion.
