Police fight to curb crime during blackouts

The Botswana Police say the ongoing power outages across the country pose serious challenges and must be countered with strong and coherent strategies to nip crime in the bud.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Matthews Letsholo says they have put several measures in place to monitor facilities in high risk areas. Although he did not name them, Letsholo must have been referring to crime ridden locations like Broadhurst, Gaborone West, Old Naledi, Mogoditshane and Tlokweng.

He stated that the unplanned power outages that have recently hit the country have also resulted in increased pressure on limited policing resources.
