Police Deny Liability To Family Of Killed Detainee

The Botswana Police Service has denied any liability to the family of a man who died after sustaining fatal injuries while under their custody and would not pay any damages as demanded.

The police’s denial follows a legal suit instituted by the family of the deceased 26-year-old, Tshupelo Bokang demanding answers and compensation for his two minor children.

In their plea filings dated October 11, 2016 the police denied any wrongdoing, arguing that the deceased who reportedly died four days after being hospitalised, jumped out of a moving police vehicle, something the family is skeptical of.
