Pharmacists shortage bites in Phikwe

SELEBI-PHIKWE: Patients were left stranded at Tapologo and Kagiso clinics this week because there were no pharmacists to dispense medication.

By mid-day, patients at Tapologo Clinic told Mmegi they had been waiting to collect their medication since morning. Some of the patients had been transferred from South East Clinic where there is no pharmacist.

The patients said they were not notified that the pharmacist was absent. A nurse told Mmegi that the pharmacist did not report for duty because his mother had passed away. She said there was no temporary replacement because of a shortage of pharmacists in Selebi-Phikwe. "Patients will have to collect their medication from Botshabelo Clinic or Selebi-Phikwe Government Hospital," she said.
