The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) has received at least four names of people interested in replacing the late Tshimoyapula councillor in the Serowe North constituency.

Tshimoyapula councillor, Leposo Mosarwe died last month after a short illness. Mmegi has learnt that the BDP members who have shown interest to contest for primaries might compromise.

“The reason why some of them have started negotiating amongst themselves is because time for nominations of candidates to be submitted to the IEC is due soon. Nominations will be held in two weeks time and if the party is not ready, then we will not be represented,” a source said yesterday.  However, the identities of the candidates are yet to be known. The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Slumber Tsogwane has issued a writ for the by-election. Nominations of candidates will be held on September 15 and the election will be held on October 7.
