Parties welcome IEC decision

FRANCISTOWN: Political parties have welcomed the suggestion by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to cancel by-elections because of the looming general elections.

Four council seats are vacant after the death of the incumbents and with general elections scheduled for October, the IEC has suggested that they should not be filled.

There is concern that the newly elected councillors may not even attend council sessions while the IEC's current budget is only enough for the general elections.
