Parliament passes Kgotla motion

Parliament has passed a motion calling on government to carry out a process aimed at reviewing and raising the traditional Kgotla's profile.

After debate on the motion over the last three Fridays, Speaker of the National Assembly Dr Margaret Nasha last Friday truncated the debate, as there was overwhelming consensus on the issue by all Members of Parliament (MPs).

Shoshong MP Philip Makgalemele had tabled the motion, arguing that the profile of the Kgotla needed to be raised so it could meet the expectations of its clients. He pointed out that although the Kgotla was one of the oldest institutions in the country, it had been neglected.
