Fire fighters ran out of water as they struggled to extinguish the fire that gutted one of Gaborone's prestigious nightclubs, Ozone, near River Walk Mall yesterday. The fire was reported at 10 in the morning but fire fighters had already run out of water by 11:45. There was nowhere nearby to refill the fire engines.

The fire fighters were frustrated because there is no fire hydrant at Ozone nightclub.  Fire hydrants are an active fire protection measure.
According to the fire fighters at the spot, they needed a hydrant to fill the fire engines with water as they continued fighting the inferno.

They complained that due to diminishing water in their fire engines, the pumps lacked the needed pressure. The firemen said the only option they had was to drive out and fetch water from a building where there was a hydrant. One of the fire fighters wondered how the inspectors allowed the building to operate without fire hydrants.
