Over P600,000 in overpayment to RSA students

The overpayment of students' overpayment of allowances of studying in South Africa may lead to loss of public funds because the Auditor General says there is no evidence of action being taken to recover these debts from the students concerned.

The Auditor General's report for the financial year ending March 31, 2008 reveals that a total of P655, 601 is owed due to the overpayment of students.

The overpayments arose from various factors, among them payments to students who had absconded and those who had completed their studies and were not entitled to the allowances.
