Lesego Motsumi has become the first cabinet minister to fall in the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) primaries in a weekend when four MPs lost the nominations.

The Health Minister was beaten in her South East South constituency by Odirile Motlhale who got 2,065 votes. Motsumi polled 1,038 votes while Ishoo Abdulla got 362. Maun West MP Ronald Ridge will not be in the next Parliament after he was whitewashed at the nominations by Batawana paramount chief Tawana Moremi. Once a victim of the BDP's vetting exercise, Tawana made his come back by polling 1,394 votes while Ridge got 976. However, in Maun East, Frank Ramsden  stood his ground with 1 665 votes against  his challenger Claude Gabanakemo who got 416.

In Kgatleng West, legislator Rakwadi Modipane failed to resist the challenge of Gilbert Mangole. The MP got 1,089 votes as Mangole marched to victory with 1,786 votes. Initially it was reported that Modipane will make way for Mangole in Kgatleng West but the two applied to contest the primaries.
