The upgrading of the Old Naledi Infrastructure Project is now complete, Gaborone Mayor Haskins Nkaigwa announced yesterday.

The project, originally planned for completion in December 2010, was meant to include provision of a sewerage network, tarred roads and associated storm water drainage system, water reticulation and street lighting to Gaborone's oldest and largest township. Costs were originally estimated at P152 million. The completed project has been handed over to the council, while plans are underway for the council to officially hand it over to its beneficiaries.

"As we speak, residents of Old Naledi are reaping the benefits of the project as they have started using the tarred roads and some have started connecting to the water lines," he said at the official opening of the Gaborone City Council's (GCC) full council meeting yesterday.
