No end to Zwenshambe chieftainship crisis

FRANCISTOWN: Seven of the eight villages in Zwenshambe have rejected Kgosi Freda Mosojane as the arbiter in the chieftainship dispute in the area.

Mosojane was given the mandate to provide direction in the Zwenshambe chieftainship feud by the Minister of Local Government, Margaret Nasha, after the rejection of former Francistown mayor and now nominated councillor, Peter Ngoma, as the headman of records because of a previous criminal conviction. There is a feeling that Mosojane is dragging her feet in deciding the matter as residents of seven villages claim that she is favouring Chabale ward, which Ngoma comes from. Former Botswana National Front (BNF) vice-president, Peter Woto, says that the Chabale family has dominated the Zwenshambe chieftainship and they are opposed to the nomination of Mosojane to resolve the matter.

"We are not all subjects of Mosojane. Some of us are originally from Mapoka and Masunga. Why is it that Mapoka and Masunga chiefdoms are not meddling in this matter? We don't want her to poke her nose in the chieftainship of our village. If she interferes, we would also want Masunga and Mapoka chiefdoms to do likewise," said the outspoken Woto.
