FRANCISTOWN: Looking years younger than his 50 plus years, Peter "Jomo" Ngoma recently opened up about his life and aspirations in the political game.

Describing his early days in politics as "a past of pleasant and sweet memories" Ngoma says although initially reluctant, he became active in politics in 1984 when he was in his early 20s.  "There was one man during those times, the late Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) politician, Daniel Kwele who mentored me. I was a boy at that time and he took me along whenever he went to political rallies," he pauses and laughs.

"He was a very disciplined man and I was his campaigner. I remember he instilled in me the discipline of listening to the news. To him news was very important and never to be missed.  When it was news time, he would park his car on the side of the road and just listen. In those days, it was unusual to listen to news in the car and drive at the same time. People would just park their cars and listen to the news. I never stopped following current affairs since then," Ngoma said. He stated that Kwele later left the BDP to form his own Botswana Progressive Union (BPU).
