LOBATSE: Murder suspect, Matshidiso Ntwaagae (29) said in court yesterday that she was defending herself when she hacked her boyfriend to death with an axe.

Ntwaagae allegedly struck her lover more than 11 times in the head with an axe after a misunderstanding. She testified  that during the day of the incident, the deceased, Pule Letota choked her with a scarf she was wearing around her neck.

The court heard that Letota sustained 'extensive injury to the head, body, face and the neck' and had axe marks on his forehead. She said that Letota got angry after she told him that she was going to her place after they had a misunderstanding. She told court that she decided to leave Letota's place after he failed to protect her from his ex-girl friend's attack. She said when she entered the house, Letota locked the door and hid the key. She tried talking to Letota to open the door but to no avail. "Then he started choking me with the scarf," she said.
