MPs' salaries, allowances not comparable with other workers'- Masisi

The Minister of Presidential Affairs and Public Administration Mokgweetsi Masisi says its government's view that political leadership is not comparable with other arms of government, citing the judiciary, executive and the general public.

Masisi said this yesterday when responding to the debates by Members of Parliament (MPs) regarding the National Assembly (Salaries and Allowances) (Amendment) Bill, 2012 (No. 13 0f 2012). He said this has been deliberate since independence, as MPs perform a civic duty.

The Bill was deferred last month, immediately after Molepolole MP Daniel Kwelagobe lambasted government for not taking into account challenges encountered by ordinary members in the House. At the time, he said ministers are better as they are offered free transport.
