MPs in 'Madam Speaker' hitch

Several Members of Parliament (MPs)found it hard yesterday to refer to the Speaker as "Madam Speaker" at the beginning of the debates of the second meeting of the 10th Parliament.

Margaret Nasha is the first woman speaker of the National Assembly On many occasions the MPs found themselves referring to her as "Mr Speaker" and finding themselves being called to order. Even the security officers referred to her as "Mr Speaker" when announcing her arrival in the House to commence proceedings, something, which attracted Education and Skills Development Minister, Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi's attention.

She called on the Speaker to encourage everybody to get used to the "madam language as quickly as possible".
