FRANCISTOWN: The board of the Selebi-Phikwe BCL copper-nickel mine last week returned Montwedi Mphathi as general manger after months of wavering.

Mphathi and the leadership of the Botswana Mining Workers Union (BMWU) always had an uneasy relationship. His 12-month departure brought relief to the unionists.

A BCL board member and Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Minerals Energy and Water Resources, Kago Moshashane, told The Monitor last March: "Mpathi is scheduled to go to a business school in France and he is expected to return to occupy a higher position".
