FRANCISTOWN: Member of Parliament (MP) for Francistown West Ignatius Moswaane is expected to undergo surgery after sustaining a fracture on his leg while trying to intervene in a gang fight. Moswaane suffered injuries on his leg on Monday evening near his home in Monarch.

The legislator told MmegiOnline that an X-ray was performed on his injured leg earlier today (Tuesday) and the results indicated that he suffered a fracture on his leg and had to undergo surgery. Moswaane was reportedly hit with a stone by a member of the two warring gangs. “Right now I am receiving treatment and waiting to be operated on,” Moswaane, who is currently hospitalised at Nyangabwe Referral Hospital, said.

According to one of the eyewitnesses who preferred to remain anonymous, a Zimbabwean man was fighting with one of Moswaane’s neighbours. It is said that the fight escalated into a gang fight and the MP tried to mediate. The eyewitness said that when Moswaane tried to intervene he was hit with a stone by the Zimbabwean man. Moswaane was reportedly attended to by paramedics before he was taken to the hospital.
