Moribund Teachers' Body 'Reforms'

After 14 years of a moribund existence, the Botswana Primary Teachers' Association (BOPRITA) appears to be emerging from the doldrums.

This week, the organisation placed an advert in the press informing members about its offices in Gaborone. This is seen as the first step towards rebuilding the organisation many primary school teachers had come to regard as being 'owned' by certain individuals who were reluctant to leave office.

The advert states that members can now access benefits such as salary advances and a funeral cover for them and their spouses and children within 48 hours. This is the first time BOPRITA is making such benefits available.
