More people applying for electricity

The standardization of the cost of connecting household electricity in eligible rural centres has attracted a lot of interest after about 13,000 applications were received from a total of 337 villages under the new scheme.

The Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, Ponatshego Kedikilwe has stated that government has rolled out the first phase of the implementation of the national electricity standard cost (NESC) for eligible households in villages and areas which qualify for a standard cost.

Minister Kedikilwe said in a statement to the press that despite the sustainability of the fund being a major stumbling block before its complete rollout, the implementation of the scheme is going well.
