More murders recorded in Monarch - police chief

FRANCISTOWN: Central Police Station Commander Mokuedi Mphathi has said that Monarch location continues to record high levels of crime especially murder cases.

He said other locations with high crime levels were Coloured, Area A and Donga and that they (police) were currently investigating a case in which a 26-year-old man allegedly murdered his 22-year-old girlfriend in Coloured on suspicion of infidelity.

"Both the suspect and the deceased resided in Coloured location. Soon after the murder, the suspect vanished but later handed himself in to the police," he said. He said that generally crime had reduced because the police employed strategies such as cluster policing whereby communities take part in crime prevention and educating people on crime prevention. "But it is not satisfactory because some members of the community are still reluctant to help combat crime.
