Mokolodi acts to preserve precious rhino

Mokolodi Nature Reserve which received a P5,000 donation from Manase Construction, plans to set up a dedicated rhino monitoring and surveillance team and procure operational equipment to protect the endangered species.

Mmegi yesterday joined the two stakeholders to witness the donation as part of the company's corporate social responsibility to raise awareness for the Rhino Fund. It was followed by a rhino-tracking excursion that entailed four hours of tracking the six white rhinos at the nature reserve south of Gaborone.

Deputy park manager, Dennis Mokgau, warned that the regal mammals would become extinct if not protected from poachers. He said that in the meantime they are going through a difficult time providing food and water for the rhino because of the poor rains this year.
