Former president Festus Mogae and the Directorate on Intelligence and Security (DIS) director general, Isaac Kgosi have said that the Facebook accounts bearing their names are fake. They said that the accounts are aimed at misleading members of the public.

The said accounts, which are very active have a large following with most friends believing the accounts are genuine.  In Mogae’s purported account, people frequently express their gratitude to him for accepting their friendship requests while some continue to shower him with praise for his outstanding leadership.  The impostor only shares Mogae’s pictures.  It is not clear what his motives are and what he or she does behind the account.

In a brief interview with Mmegi, Mogae who is currently mediating over the political crisis in the embattled South Sudan, said he does not have a Facebook account and does  not know why somebody would operate one in his name.
