Mob kills on-duty GCC employee

A Kanye family is mourning the death of their son Nigel Joel Johnny, after a mob attacked him while he was on duty.

Johnny, 35, was a refuse collector for the Gaborone City Council (GCC), and was on duty in the Kgale View area when he was attacked by unknown assailants on April 13th. He died three days later in hospital from, according to his death certificate, "cranio cerebral injuries."

His mother, Gaogakwe Thabeng, yesterday told Mmegi that the doctors at the Gaborone Private Hospital, where he died, told her that his brain was covered in blood and that it had moved. His skull had also been cracked in the attack. He remained in a coma all the three days that he was in hospital, and died after an unsuccessful surgical procedure to try to remove the blood from his brain.
