Medical education programme aproved by council

The University of Botswana of Botswana Council has approved the curriculum for the Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) undergraduate degree programme.

The pre-medical students who enroll in August 2008 will be the first group to commence the full cycle of undergraduate medical education offered in Botswana. Hence the August 2008 milestone will mark the formal commencement of the UB School of Medicine. The School of Medicine is a constituent part of the UB Faculty of Health Sciences that was established in 2006.

The establishment of the medical school at UB is a phased process that commenced in August 2000 with the first intake of 60 students to UB's premedical programme. Since then, this programme has placed 275 students in partner and other medical schools in foreign countries, with 43 more due to transfer to partner schools in South Africa and Australia in early 2008.
