The MP for Gaborone Bonnigton North, Robert Masitara has been promised P2 million in campaign funds by his sponsors, a senior member of his political team has said. Masitara’s campaign manager, Mohalobi Emmanuel Seretse, told Mmegi yesterday that their sponsors have promised to give them the cash, though the MP can still retain the constituency even if they are given less money.

“It is true we have started our campaigns and all of our sponsors are ready. Some have already started giving us money because they want to see us win the constituency. When we calculated all our costs, it amounted to P250,000,” Seretse said.

He said Masitara and his councillors have reconciled and are now working harmoniously. The MP told Mmegi that he has made peace with the councillors and that he is now sourcing funds to sponsor his campaign. Masitara refused to reveal the amount he is looking for and referred all questions back to Seretse. The MP faces a challenge from the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) president Duma Boko and Annah Motlhagodi of the Botswana Congress Party (BCP).
