Marina honours staff with excellence awards

The Princess Marina Hospital held an excellence awards' ceremony this week to honour 23 outstanding employees.

The Dental Department was the toast of the ceremony as its workers scooped the majority of the awards followed by the Department of Radiology. The Dental Department scooped four awards while Radiology got three. The workers were feted for long service, customer service and innovation. The two biggest awards were Above and Beyond Call of Duty; and Most Outstanding and Dedicated Performance, which were scooped by Dr Ashpad Gureya and Dr Malchand Shama respectively.

In his acknowledgement address, Shama expressed gratitude saying that although he has retired, he will forever be a part of Marina. "We are all connected to each other. We may not be together but we have a connecting link," he said to a standing ovation. Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Mmolotsi Motumise, the acting hospital superintendent said the awards were part of a strategy by the hospital to motivate and reward employees who contribute to the improvement of quality healthcare.
